A rendition of Asuka in a vulnerable position... from the game "Eva happy friends: stripping complementaion project" which I think is a strip mahjong game by Gainax. After the Eva wave they are still milking the cow, gosh.

Kit Review

Seam lines: 4/5   Pinholes: 3/5   Casting: 2/5   Fit: 2/5   Part Break: 2/5   Help

This darn kit is one of the most time consuming in terms of surface preparation. All the parts are broken mid-calves, and much putty work is needed. The worst part is most of the surfaces aren't fitting well, resulting in big gaps and fragile joints. I was a bit sloppy when I did the first round of surface work, and left the gaps filled with only a thin layer of putty. Later when I blow dry the parts, the air in the gaps expanded and ruined the putty work... yikes. I then had to go through several more rounds of filling and repriming on most of the limbs.

Building

I've painted so many nudes so I thought I'd try something new - tan lines. I don't like tan lines at all (though I know a lot of people have tan line fetish), but otherwise the body is so boring. My goal was to achieve tan lines that are very subtle - if they're too obvious they just look like clothing aren't they. I first tried to do it free hand with the custom micron, it almost worked, but the keyword here is "almost". It was still very difficult for me to control such a fine spray, so there was a couple of oversprays and I decided it'd be difficult to mask away the errors, therefore I redid the skin tone and next I tried to use oil. The problem with oil however is you can't get a very smooth surface without blending away almost all the colors, and that makes the tan lines not visible at all. Finally, I attempted the forbidden - airbrushing oil. I always fantasize about doing it but thought it was a weird idea. This time airbrushing oil allows me to blend away the tan line edges if they were too hard coming from the airbrush, and also wipe out mistakes using just my hand. I went through a few iterations and finally got it right, then I sealed it with Mr. Color super clear, and mist the skintone over the lines to subdue the contrast.

I also mixed Pearl-Ex gold powder to Asuka's base hair color, I think it works! Her hair looks shiny now (but not too shiny), and gives very anime-like highlights.
