Sawa is the heroine From the lyrical "A Kite". I like the show a lot, mostly because of its very moody atmosphere and Sawa herself. She said, her name (which literally is sand-feather) means "The sand you can't hold," "The feather blown by the wind." She didn't speak much in the show; the character depicts a very empty presence and you can really feel the muted pain.

School girl kits are not really my cup of tea, but I picked this kit up to participate in the Ecchi Figure Club theme. I think the flying uniform works, and figure doesn't suffer from static posing and gives me a chance to work some techniques to enhance the kit.

Kit Review

Seam lines: 4/5   Pinholes: 4/5   Casting: 4/5   Fit: 3/5   Part Break: 5/5   Help

A very easy kit to surface prepare since all the pieces don't have a lot of concave surfaces. The fit is mostly fine, I was able to use acrylic paste to do most of the gluing-after-painting puttying.

Building

Sawa is a more realistic anime figure, so I can apply real eyelashes on her like I did for Shiki. It wasn't easy at all and I ruined an eye at one point due to running super glue. Then I started using Elmer's white glue and it works great. I think the eyelashes really enhance the kit. By the way Sawa has one of the weirdest eyes of anime characters, they're big, scary and empty. I tried duplicating that effect on the kit, so you're not seeing the normal cutie eyes. Also applied epoxy on them to give it a glassy look, so you see a lot of light reflections in the photos, but this also caused some front view shots to look cross-eyed. The one thing I'm not happy about the sculpt is the lips, they're just abnormal and makes it hard to paint. I opted to change the expression a bit to a slightly open mouth and seems to work better.

Then I tried using the Pearl-Ex duo color pigments on the uniform. They're like the interference colors - at one angel you see one color and another angle another color. I used the duo red-blue mixed with cobalt blue for the uniform, and it gives a silky surface with some odd red highlights, the effect is quite pleasing... though it didn't register in the photos, too bad.

The highlight of the kit is the panties :) The kit itself doesn't have any details for it, but given it's featured prominently in the kit it should be given VIP treatment. I painted a panty template from memory, and that includes a white pearl front with some semi-transparent areas which I put flowerly patterns on.

Finally Sawa's lunchbox (which in fact is a deadly container for its custom gun) has a cute little froggie logo on it, I made a decal for it.
