The Asuka kit is a favorite among GK builders, the peaceful expression and pose with a very sincere face and relaxing atmosphere... this kit has it all. The Rei kit is nice too, but it has less skin and the facial expression is very strange... is she scared of something? I just think it's kind of a shy expression. Anyway they come as a set and that's how it all comes together. I set them like they did in hobby japan EX with velvet sheet on which they're lying on... very lovely.

Kit Review

Seam lines: ?/5   Pinholes: ?/5   Casting: ?/5   Fit: ?/5   Part Break: ?/5   Help

Both kits have great casting. The Asuka kit has some problem going exactly flat on the surface, but otherwise there is no visible parting lines when assembled. Rei has her left arm separated with her hand and needed smoothing. The angel of the arm also need to be adjusted during test assembly to ensure the right posture.

Building

I sanded off the top band of Asuka's shorts so that she has a little more stomach. Asuka's skin looks sun-burned, as I was using a darker skin tone for all my figures at that time, but it wasn't too bad, and contrasted with Rei's whiter skin well. Asuka gave me more painting problems than rei, and during drybrushing on Askua's top I scratched off some paints... pain ensured. In retrospect I should've used oil for the drybrushing.

I wasn't doing very well with Rei's hand & arm, as a result a thin parting line can still be seen after I finished painting. So Rei has a watch now :) Otherwise Rei was one of the easier kits to finish without major disasters.

Finishing - Due to my lack of test fitting and prep-assembly I needed to manipulate the velvet so that Asuka looks like she's lying flat on the velvet. ThenI framed the whole thing... they're so lovely!

Oh and did I mention the velvet came from a piece of woman undergarment I bought from a second hand store :)
