I experimented with a lighter skintone and vary the light and shadow
with heavier layer of the same color, since I would like to rely less
on oil painting. Oil painting is great, but you can't always rely on it
because you never know what crap is on the painted surface of your kit.
Plus I want to do better airbrushing so save time.
The results turned out quite well, if I do it right I shouldn't need
to paint in the highlights anymore, that's an advantage of using a white
base coat. If a mistake occur, I "wipe out" the area by laying
in base white to cover the area, and try again. Quite convenient! However
the figure is still a little bit flat, so I needed to mix a shadow color.
That turns out to be a challenge, and the mixture turned out too red or
too yellow. Finally mixing in the right amount of blue helped fix the
problem. Oil is used sparingly since the figure was quite satisfactory
after airbrushing.
The hair was all hand painted and airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics. They
didn't stick well enough though, and before it cured, it could scratch
off quite easily. I hate masking, so I hand painted in the outline of
the hair, leaving bigzzer areas for airbrushing.
I think her pose looks like she's holding a towel between her hands;
if I find the right materials, I'll probably add that on later.
