A Bell-chan I did for commission. This is a simple pose Belldandy, but you can't really go wrong with kits of her. I wonder if the pose was inspired a little bit from the Kurushima Asuka where she has the same kind of open hand cute gesture.

[Update 3/3] Thanks to a viewer I fixed a glitch on her shirt, turns out I smeared some undried oil on it when I positioned her during picture taking. A little thinner fixed it. It's always dangerous to photograph right after it comes off your work table :)

[Updated 3/17] Whoa, I didn't even build the kit correctly. Here's one instance where lack of a good sample picture and instruction does woes. Turns out there are supposedly two stripes of hair underneath the front hair piece, which would reduce the giant forehead problem... only found out after staring at a blurry picture of the kit for a long time. This page will be updated yet again in a couple of weeks. This "simple little kit" turns out to be quite dramatic indeed.

[Updated 4/5] Now she doesn't look as bald :) Also I tried to reduce the teeth a little. I like teeth in anime smiley faces, it's a little bit more natural than the cartoony red crescent.

Kit Review

Seam lines: 3/5   Pinholes: 3/5   Casting: 2/5   Fit: 2/5   Part Break: 4/5   Help

I didn't buy the kit myself and got an Elfin recast kit. DON'T BUY THEM. It's not even whether it's ethical or not (it has bad english instructions on its back) - the casting was pretty bad, with warped hair pieces, hands and head don't fit to the body, and a lot of putty work was required. Worst of all, the surfaces has occasional small bumps, which is even harder to detect and get rid of after priming. The seam lines are pretty bad, hair pieces has lots of chipped areas.

Building

Since she's so plain I gave her a flowery coat. The patterns are decals. It's actually not the greatest idea, with all the folds of her coat imagine having to level all the decals! I made her flying front stray hair with styrene sheets, the resin ones are too thick and they're so uniform, looks like Bell-chan is wearing a broken umbrella on her head ^_^;;;

For her hair I use her normal color this time, and my mix is 60% wood brown + 40% brown. Shadow is thinned red brown and highlight is gold pearl airbrushed on, then base color is misted over to reduce the shine. Then additional goal pearl is drybrushed on. The reflections on hair is not due to gloss but these gold powder; I think it makes the hair look more like those shampoo commercials ;)

I also increased her skin count by painting her shoulder/neck area in skintone. The original kit I think was designed to have that area be part of the shirt, which explains her collar. But she's Bell-chan, she can wear any weirdo costume and still looks great :)

I added sand on her sole - an important part of linking the figure with the base - with very thick oil mixed with cold wax to get that sand-cluster-like texture.
