Some people apply an over coat on the model to protect the finish. I think coating kills the different glossiness of different regions, as well as eliminating some subtle shading, so I don't coat anymore. If you have to coat, Testor's Dullcote is ok (though I heard it can yellow over time), Gunze's Super Clear sprays or Topcoat sprays works very well, and Krylon's matte finish is one of the toughest coat, although you must not flood the model surface with it, because it eats away most paints if sprayed on heavy.
