Time for another robot… the one-time wonder Gyan that I really liked when I was a kid.

Very different from what I imagined the set to be initially, but I’m not complaining

Photographing this kit was a real challenge. The girls are facing different ways, so their faces could easily be in the shadows, especially Holiday (middle). After picking up some studio setup tips, I built a reflector board using crumbled aluminum foil, and it worked really great.
Another challenge is the depth of the kit. The kit is about 8″ in diameter, so it’s quite deep for a macro-like shot. Had to crank all the way up to f/22, which requires bright flash to compensate. I also couldn’t expose more than 1 second or else the modeling light (yellow tint) will show in the photos. Somehow everything worked out just ok at ISO 200.

Haha… did some detailing on the swimsuits, and giving some definitions to the bubbles via a clear blue showing through the acrylic base bottom.

Also playing with my flash and lighting setup… now that I have slightly more idea what I’m doing, it’s actually fun

OMG is it a figure update?!
Taking a breather from my sabbatical (that doesn’t sound right…), I’m finding some time to wrap up some of the kits I’ve been working on FOREVER. First up is this set of 3 Keiko girls – Holiday, Yasumi and Suzumi in swimsuit. Originally I had them organized in a floating cloud sort of set up and have them transformed into angels with wings, but now I wanna try a bubble bath instead. Click to enlarge.

I’ll need to do something about the bubbles so that they look more interesting, perhaps a bottom layer of clear blue. And the girls will be holding colored bubbles as well. I like the white swimsuits but they do need some details, otherwise the kit seems a little boring.
One thing that seems different after all this time, is that I seem to be more careful in handling parts, haha.
