Conversion of the 1/10 Hobby Japan standing Yuna.
While I corrected most of the flaws of the original kit, I worked her
face based on my own "Japanese Bishoujo" idea and didn't
notice her face isn't as round as her CG model in the game. As a result
the kit looks very Asian but less so in the game. May be I can call
her "Cosplay Yuna"

This is the view that I designed Yuna's new pose on. The main idea is to have her
dress be flowing and have her go into a flying-shot pose. The chest pattern was
molded onto her bare chest in the kit, which I removed and recreated using
brass sheets... I think it's worth the trouble because you get more clevage
this way, where as on the original kit the molded pattern becomes part of
her skin.
Lots of details crammed into a small 1/10 kit!
The nice flowing dress and hair braid. Somehow the kit's artistic balance would be off with just the dress flying on her left side, so the braid served an important function of balancing the kit on the right. A nice horizontal profiling view that shows how everything goes together. The shoe laces were molded onto the kit, but to get maximum flow, I made my own using plastic strips.
I didn't think the kit fair well against the nice CG'ed hair in the game, but with a little highlights it really isn't too bad.
My lighting for kits were the same always, but this time I tried something different and it works particulary well for Yuna. Anyway, I haven't painted a realistic face for a while and one is needed for Yuna. There's some pressure that the kit can't do much worse than it's CG counterpart...
In the end I think it's ok, but the sculpt combined with my changed head angle resulted in some anomalies from some angles.

The trademark Yuna gradient dress.
The swirly fiery thingy is supposed to be some magic aurora, mostly used to hide the unsightly support rod for Yuna. It's made with acetate sheets.
The base used to be pretty cool with a simple black X and white "-2", but after a number of mess ups it's becoming this way, which I think is ok but less powerful.

From the latest PS2 game Final Fantasy X-2 comes the heroine Yuna. The skimpy outfit was a shock to some of the fans (they obviously haven't learnt from Jill in Resident Evil 3 ), but I'm mostly attracted by her twin guns - many potential for coolnesss

Since I haven't played the game there isn't really much to say about her character, but her costume is certainly quite unique. The chest insigna thingy is a great way to reveal more while maintaining complexity, and there are many gadgets she's wearing (how much time does it take for her to get going in the morning? ) My impression of her half-dress is initially one of annoyance - how does one move with that thing! But then if you look at it artistically, it really isn't a bad addition. I'm less thrilled about her shorts; certainly a great way to show more legs, but it has that weird 70's swim suit look.

Anyway the original kit depicts her in a pretty nice standing pose. Although it's not a bad stance, when you get two guns you've gotta wave it at someone! Thus we have this kit titled: "Yuna ~A Better Tomorrow~ directed by John Woo"

Details of modifications from the original kit are in Making of Yuna.
If anyone knows the name of the sculptor please let me know, thanks.

Kit Review

Seam lines: 4/5   Pinholes: 4/5   Casting: 4/5   Fit: 3/5   Part Break: 3/5   Help

There are a few bad breaks, one between the head and the neck which makes removing the seam difficult, and the waist "scarf"/belt assembly is kind of messy, and the scarf requires puttying after painting. If you choose to remove the seam between neck/head, then you'd need to install the cape first.
