The X-ATH-09 RSC Bloodsucker comes from the enigmatic OVA series Votoms : The Last Red Shoulder. The name alone attracted my attention many years ago, and Yutaka Izubuchi's design was cool like heck. I always see it as some sort of executioner.

The story happened some time between the first Uoodo City arc and the Kummen Jungle Arc. Fyana was capture by the secret society, and Chirico met up with his 3 old pals from his Red Shoulder days to bring her back.
Fyana was kept in a secret base on the outskirt of Uoodo City. The base was commanded by the ex-supreme commander of the Red Shoulder, Colonel Pearson. Because of the Red Shoulder, Chirico's pals were banished to various unpleasant fates, and they saught revenge from the commander.
The base was guarded by ex-Red Shoulders and they were equipped with Bloodsuckers. They were disposed of rather quickly by our well-coordinated team, until an unwelcomed guest showed up.
Well who else, Ypsilon of course. He hammered everyone until Fyana stepped up and stopped him from killing Chirico. In the end Pearson was killed, the base blown up, and Fyana was taken away while Chirico stared.
Ok back to the kit. This is one of the earliest kits I've bought! Despite being a vinyl kit, the edges are very sharp, and details are very crisp.
I've worked this guy on and off for many years, but I didn't feel like finishing it 'til now. Mostly because I mixed the Batmobile's body color, and has spare to apply to this guy :)
Max Factory periodically re-releases this kit, so you can still buy this from HLJ. It's mostly a fixed-pose kit, with a little bit of movability
on the shoulders and legs, but why'd you want to move them? Anyway the kit is also multimedia, it has resin parts for the gun and shoulder antennae (that V-thing).
This time I did a bit of paint chipping by underlaying some steel color, applying masking liquid, paint and then peel off the masking to reveal the chip.
Personally I think it's a bit overkill for 1/100 kits, but for anything larger than 1/35 this makes sense.
I wanted some variability in the chipped parts, so I unpeeled the masking liquid at different stages, so that it'll have different exposed metal of different shineiness.
The kit has a bit of exposed details like the pistons on the ankles, and detailed joint junctions. Not many mechs you can say the back looks as good as the front, but the Bloodsucker is definitely one of them.
After my experience with drybrushing the Batmobile I felt very comfortable doing this kit justice.
Rather than the very prominent drybrushing using aluminum, I decided to do more subdued one using light grey this time.
The two cones on its head are smoke grenades.
I lost some parts after all these years of tossing the kit around, so I had to commandeer some parts from my other Scopedog kits :)
The Red Shoulder "R" insigna was engraved on the armor, so some careful painting was necessary to bring it out.
The resin parts were actually very poorly casted, and were basically honey combs that require a lot of filling. Yuck.
I could use a bit more dust-like drybrushing around the feet parts. The contrast with the rest of the body aren't too obvious.
Hope you liked it!
