More digging…

More enhancements to WordPress as I’m trying to improve the navigation in the site. WP allows you to define a hierarchy of “pages”, but there’s really no good way to generate navigation out of that before I discovered the WP-PagesNav plugin. Spent some time customizing the style sheet for it. Looks pretty adhoc but it works ๐Ÿ™‚ Many of the articles are integrated into WP – so that they can really work under one template. Also trying to make a CSS menu on the top RHS. Everything works fine in Firefox, but IE less so… not to mention it looks uglier. Ugh.

Web authoring really changed a lot over the last couple of years. I still remember the days of Dreamweaver and such. I liked using it until I got fed up with it not being able to render pages correctly. Now people are authoring contents inside a browser – that’s as WYSIWYG as you can get. And the content management system runs on the server side rather than on your PC. Platform has changed and I still can’t make my pages look professional ๐Ÿ˜€

  1. I know what you mean. I still use Dreamweaver for a tweak or two, but nothing really significant. I find it easier just to write the html code myself.

I really like the idea of being able to edit the page layout and css in the browser also. It’s a lot easier than the write and upload system necessary previously.

You’re making good progress, though. Keep it up and keep learning all about blogging to maximize a user’s experience.

  2. Thanks. I also checked out your blog that you posted in the forum – you’re really good with page designs! Blogger offers a lot of functionalities for sure, but I guess they won’t yet take my load of data ๐Ÿ™‚

I have also been looking for a solution that’d allow me to upload images and resize it in the browser, rather than having me do photoshop on them onn my PC and then uploading them. It just seems more convenient that way. But there may be something wrong with the GD installation here, and I couldn’t get the WP plugins to work yet.
